“April is the month when you smell orange blossoms wherever you go. Delossy suggests a book title: Orange Blossoms Everywhere.”   ~ Maud Hart Lovelace, diary entry April  25, 1957, Claremont, California

The past few weeks have been very busy working on the new books! The work on “Orange Blossoms Everywhere” is nearly complete and the book will soon go to print. The orange blossoms Maud and Delos loved are beautifully displayed on the front cover. Maud’s favorite color was green and it’s the color used for the background on the back cover.

This book was first printed by the Southern California Chapter of the Betsy-Tacy Society in 1997 and has been out of print for a number of years. The new edition is updated and contains pictures not included in the first edition.

While the book focuses mainly on the Lovelace’s first few years in California, it also tells the story of the final chapter in Maud and Delos’s life – their retirement years in Claremont, California. There are chapters on the subjects of family, spirituality and nature, writing and Betsy’s Wedding, Betsy-Tacy and books written during their Claremont years. With the immense help of Maud’s diaries, as well as interviews with those who knew Maud and Delos when they lived in Claremont, the reader is given a glimpse into the golden years of this literary couple. Here are a few examples:

November 10, 1953 – I watered awhile, sitting on our front porch. Thought of my father. He would have done that. But he’d have done it to rest his feet and I was resting my back.

April 14, 1954 – A good morning’s work. My study (and Merian’s bedroom) snowed under with “Betsy’s Wedding.”

June 25, 1954 – It’s foggy, but as we breakfast Delossy looks at red and white azaleas and I look at hollyhocks. We do have a sweet house! And “this is the life” Delossy remarked to me this morning before we got up.

December 2, 1956 – Up early on my darling’s birthday. How grateful I am to his mother!

The Southern California Chapter of the Betsy-Tacy Society plans to use any profits from this book to raise funds for the Betsy-Tacy Society.

The book will be released on November 1st. I’m currently taking pre-publication orders on my website: www.mnheritage.com. Don’t wait – order your limited edition copy now! Don’t forget the holidays are coming up and the new editions of “Orange Blossoms Everywhere” and “One Stayed at Welcome” would make great gifts!
